Cookie Policy
This policy explains the cookies Build My Event uses and why. We keep cookies to the minimum needed to run the service.
Last updated: 18 August 2026
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They let a site remember your actions and preferences, such as keeping you signed in between pages.
2. Cookies we use
We use essential cookies, which are required for the service to function and do not need consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). We also set one functional cookie, and only if you arrive through a Growth Partner invite link, to credit the referral.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
Authentication session bme_session | Keeps you signed in to your account | Essential | Up to 7 days |
Sign-in security bme_oauth_nonce | A single-use value that ties a sign-in you started to the one that completes, protecting the sign-in flow against cross-site attacks | Essential | 10 minutes |
Sign-out flag bme_reauth | Set when you sign out, so the next sign-in asks you to choose an account rather than silently signing the last one back in on a shared device | Essential | 10 minutes |
Cookie consent bme_cookie_consent | Remembers the cookie choice you made in the notice | Essential | 12 months |
Referral attribution bme_ref | Records which Growth Partner referred you, so the introduction can be credited. Set only when you arrive through an invite link. | Functional | 60 days |
The referral cookie (bme_ref) is only set when you click a Growth Partner invite link. It records which partner introduced you so that referral can be credited for up to 60 days, and it is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
3. Non-essential and analytics cookies
We do not currently use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. If we introduce them in future, we will ask for your consent before any such cookie is set, and update this policy.
The one functional cookie we do set today — the Growth Partner referral cookie described above — is set when you arrive through an invite link, before you have made a choice in the cookie notice. If you then choose essential cookies only, we delete it. You can decline it at any time in the notice.
4. Managing cookies
You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop you from signing in or using parts of the service. Browser help pages explain how to manage cookies for your specific browser.
5. More information
For how we handle personal data more generally, see our Privacy Policy. Questions about cookies can be sent to support@buildmyevent.co.uk.
